The JSSDT will host the 24th Annual Japan-America Grassroots Summit from September 23 – 29, 2014.
Approximately 150 guests from Japan will come to the San Diego region for home stays and intercultural activities. Be a part of this important program by volunteering to be a host family for 3 nights and/or assisting with intercultural activities.

Dr. Robert Dennnard (Advanced Technology) invented the basic structure of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), critical to computer science and used extensively in today’s integrated circuit memory systems. Recognizing the potential of miniaturizing field-effect transistors, he and his colleagues also formulated “scaling theory.” Together his innovations have led to dramatic progress in information and telecommunications technology.

Professor Masatoshi Nei (Basic Sciences)made it possible to quantitatively measure evolutionary divergence and genetic diversity by devising new statistical methods, such as Nei’s Genetic Distance, and applying them to molecular data. Using these methods, his research has yileded important contributions to molecular evolutionary biology, such as genetic support for the “Out-of-Africa” theory, as well as many other academic disciplines, including ecology and conservation biology.

Cecil Taylor (Arts & Philosophy) is one of the most original pianists, in the history of jazz. He developed his unique style of improvisation through distinctive musical constructions and percussive renditions. Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefitting JSSDT educational programs
The AJ Cup is named in honor of Mr. Arthur Jonishi, 2002 recipient of the JSSDT Business
Leadership Award. AJ was instrumental in choosing San Diego as the home for Kyocera, the first Japanese-parented manufacturing company in California. In addition, he helped establish and served as the first chairman of Minato Gakuen, a school for children of all Japanese expatriate families.
